The wings are logical, in the sense that the blades on the wings creates loud noises to make their enemies thinks there are more soldiers than there actually are, thus creating fear and making them lose their moral.
You sure? How does wind resistance not knock them off the horses? Not to mention, the full armor is heavy enough. Adding wing sets to them cause extra burden to the horses.
If they want noise, I think making grooves on the armors might give similar effect. I said might cuz Idk I don't study armor.
They might have used magnesium to make the wings as it is both light and strong at the same time and i also think they said something about the wings being made of swords but i can't remember if that was another story. Your idea dea is also great.
