They didn’t. The manhua changed the novel ending probably to satisfy readers. Instead of the novel where they do end up together, the manga made it so that it’s an open ending. So mc and ml are on good terms and are like friends. Mc and ml just walk off into the background and don’t confirm anything, and the mc doesn’t confess either. So the open ending is that readers can choose whether they want to imagine that they ended up together or at most just stayed friends.
the thing i like about niannian from black lotus is that he didn't date or even considered the other guy even after the divorce..and instead focus on himself and improving his life(?)....i hate it when mc starts dating or fall in love with someone else just months after breaking up with their long term partners...luke were your feelings that shallow?? or if you're just using them as a means to move on..cant you just do it on your own?? you dont need a partner to move on from your past lovers even if its unbearably painful you just need to focus on yourself and get back up on your own stop relying on others...im not hating on the mc of this manhua but i hate how he's still being helpless and being taken care of by another love interest...i dont like the 2nd lead either the way he purposely talked to the mc while he was on the phone with ml at the restaurant all while knowing he's talking to his bf... personally he's just like ml minus that he's gentle(er) and kinder to mc...he just wants someone to settle down with and since he's attracted to the mc he wants him to be the one...giving him jobs letting him stay in his house with a cheap af rent...i want the mc to be independent and stand on his own without the help of others and moving on without dating others...im not saying he shouldn't date anyone else just saying he shouldn't date others when he still clearly hasnt forgotten about the ml tho he doesnt want to get back tgt...plus he's a guy ffs...truly living up the manhua's title tho lol
