While I wholeheartedly agree that the original myth should not be romanticised this story is not that myth even if it’s based of it. It’s irritating that it’s similar to the original myth but the “sea god” in this story is (hopefully) not named Poseidon. At least this story is better than the old myth…
Tbh, I already hate the troupe where all other women are competition. But to have Athena of all gods be the vindictive jealous bish? Hell nah she's the ace queer Queen!!! Anyone else I wouldn't have minded as much!
Can you at least pick a different myth? The most common retelling is actually Athena/Minerva, goddess of war, protecting her devot believer after she was r*ped by Poseidon in her temple. Some say she was punished, other claim she was protected; never again to be assaulted by men. The Medusa head is actually a popular tattoo to get amongst SA survivors.
Either way, Poseidon was ALWAYS the main villain. No one should be whitewashing nor romanticizing him!
