SPOILERS!!! The Queen is destined to die, just like Arabella. Ariadne stops one assasination attempt but then the Queen dies by poison because her handmaiden betrayed her. The handmaiden dies too by one Gallico man. Apparently Gallico's monarch's plan was to kill the Queen all along as an excuse to start a war
He doesn't die, he's tortured and loses an eye and an arm, but he becomes the main problem for Ariadne' and Alfonso's relationship later.
Apparently Elco fell in love at first sight with Ariadne and blamed himself for the Duke's death because he was feeling guilty for wanting the Prince's woman. He thought that Ariadne would find the act heroic and maybe would acknowledge him in the future but the torture and some Gallican men brainwashed him into believing she was the cause of his misery, so when they're at war and Ariadne sends money to finance Alfonso's war costs, Elco holds her letter explaining the money and told Alfonso that Lariessa sent the money instead, so he would be indebted to her
