He didn't want to get impregnated but he needed to lure this stallion from his owner so the owner would lose this challenge he made with the gods so he can marry a goddess. The goddess didn't want to marry this mortal so she asked Loki to mess with the challenge. Loki thought it was a good idea to woo the stallion but accidentally got jumped instead. Not one of his brightest ideas unfortunately.
