Thanks I think a lot of people are focusing on the lack of communication and pregnancy, but are missing the subtlety in the character interactions. All the characters are very complex and behave in understandable ways according to their background, personality, and motives. It’s not like a lot of stories that just throw miscommunication or lies into the mix just to whip up drama

thanks for your analysis! i actually forgot why he was initially so fixated on impregnating hwan but quick to kill their child. he just saw the baby as a tool to tie him down. well said!(๑•ㅂ•)و✧ although it was selfish of him to attempt to abort the baby without his permission, i admire how he never saw hwan as a baby maker & didn't even think twice to abandon his one and only chance to have a child. toxic but loyal with none of the preserve the bloodline bs. weirdly comforting ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Yes, this is definitely true! Dan is used to being in a position of power, both in general and with Hwan, which is not a mentality conducive to a healthy partnership. If you follow the roots, most of Dan’s actions towards Hwan can be traced back to a fear of loss or rejection. All of these problems could have been avoided if he had made decisions more rationally, or was more open and respectful with Hwan. He broke Hwan’s trust both by knowingly impregnating him without warning, and unilaterally deciding to abort the child after Hwan had accepted and begun to look forward to their birth. They both feel betrayed, but Dan was in the wrong. As a result, Dan leans towards possessiveness while Hwan leans towards disappointment. Dan created a desperate situation without due caution or research, and now their opinions are in conflict. If he hadn’t been so deceptive, Hwan wouldn’t have been driven to such extremes which are now putting him at great strain and risk, collapsing all of his pillars of support. Most of the safer and less dangerous options have been blocked off by Dan’s actions.
I think Dan was being true to character in choosing to have the baby and in trying to get rid of it when he believed it would be fatal. He is the absolute ruler of the demonic cult. Nobody questions him and he doesn’t ask for opinions or permission before making decisions. He is both possessive and insecure in his relationship with Hwan. He considered making a child the ultimate tie, ensuring that Hwan would never leave (which considering his character, would be an accurate assumption). It was less about the child than a mechanism to permanently connect them. That’s why when he realized that Hwan could/would die from it, that choosing to abort was so easy for him. He’s still not thinking like a partner, but acting out of his own fear of Hwan abandoning him either by choice or death. His fear clouds his judgement and prevents him from considering Hwan’s perspective or trying to find another way.
