Ngl tho we do have some masterpieces here. I was trying to recc a male friend some plot deep novels from Novelupdates, and I kept getting blocked by the BL tag. Like Mo Dao Zu Shi is so fantastic, but BL. Earth is Online is fantastic, but BL. All of the plot masterpieces on NU are BL :'). But also Little Mushroom, and Mist. Damn, so good. BL creators really know how to make some hella good horror / survival / sci Fi books sometimes.

Toxicity is not romanticized, but the author is emphasizing toxicity within a romance. There’s a difference. I know it sounds like an oxymoron but as someone who has been in real relationships (both toxic and healthy), to see toxicity emphasized in a relationship is quite nice than see fantasy wattpad plots like mafia falling in love with a normal person.
JK and Dan are both normal people at fault and JK is indeed a very toxic person and it is heavily emphasized. His toxicity is not romanticized in the story but rather highlighted throughout the story. This kind of concept is actually hard to swallow during at a young age (I was once your age so I know how you think) Growing up, you’ll realize that it’s nice to see actual people showing toxicity within a relationship. We don’t need psychological horror just to see the toxicity we fantasize. This concept is hard to explain to people whose mind is filled with fantasies and expectations due to less of experience in relationships, life, and culture.

auntie, i recognize your point, i genuinely do. however ( from what i see personally ), the toxicity in this story has been dragged into a heavy depth of serious things that don’t make sense. why create a story where a character will end up with his abuser? naturally, you wouldn’t want the victim to end up with someone who they share that history with. Instead, if she truly wanted to address those subjects to where it doesn’t come off as ill written, it would have great potential as a psychological and taken a totally different turn, but it doesn’t.
i’m sorry you’ve experienced unpleasant things through relationships, i know how meaningful or important it can be to find a character who has a type of past you relate with. i used to read harada religiously due to that ‘ comfort ‘ i initially felt. but if we were to pair it against booktiktok and jinx, i wouldn’t say they’re too far off. jinx just had more opportunity to become something.
im basically an adult so not too much on my age but while it is nice to see realistic stories, this one isn’t realistic. it just comes across as a fantasy where they will somehow heal together after his tragic backstory is revealed..it’s unfortunate. if there wasn’t rape, or abuse, i would definitely agree with you, but because he is so flawed in ways that go beyond toxic, i don’t see it.

Well… if you read Harada’s works.. you would not be saying “the victim should not be with the abuser” ‘cause literally almost all of Harada’s works ends up with their abusers and manipulators but you still read them “religiously”. Harada’s works are way, way, way more horrible than Jinx would ever be. If harada’s works is person, Jinx would just be its toenail.
What people missed about this story is that someone could be so toxic while being a normal person. At the end of the day, JK is still a normal person who earns his own money. Stories likes Champagne and Roses, POTN, Finding Anastasia - they show toxic tops that has social and financial power. People just tends to romanticize mafias so they find mafia stories acceptable.
Also, we don’t know the reason behind JK’s actions and we are not sure if him being so toxic and aggressive his coping mechanism. In fact, it was hinted already that JK is not naturally physically strong in his younger days so we are not sure what pushed him to be the person that he is today. I’m not excusing his actions ‘cause he’s still an asshole but the point of the story is JK to be hella toxic, aggregating, and a character you would wish all the worst things. His character in season 1 is to be hated by readers. That’s the point of the story that these haters can’t comprehend. Even Minghwa acknowledges how horrible JK is. The point of season 1 is for readers to hate JK, that’s it. If it’s not your cup of tea, then don’t read it. Don’t make anyone guilty for reading such story.

i wasn’t comparing harada and jinx, i was comparing the wattpad and jinx. harada’s stories are dedicated to a mind fucked horror, it isn’t comparable to jinx—nor was it the point i was trying to bring. i don’t read her work anymore, and i don’t support it either.
that itself could’ve been something if the person didn’t end up with them, who wouldn’t be interested in how a powerful person uses someone weaker than them as an advantage ? but it doesn’t sound well as a romance tied together..it’s pitiful if they end up together.
his trauma isnt an excuse for his actions, wanting to write a decent character who reacts to trauma could’ve been easier than aiming them to have become the abuser. even if it’s ’ realistic ‘, there are way better ways to write about it. he’s meant to be hated, so i don’t understand when people hate, others get angry. it’s a waste of energy on both sides. making readers hate a character so much, than saying he’s going to go through hell with dan doesn’t make him redeemable at all. it sounds like a pity story.
