I can understand why they both don't want to share, when it comes to both their issues sometimes you don't know what type of reaction you'll get from the other person and at the same time maybe they both don't want to receive pity from each other... but her telling him to share but explicitly refusing to share as well puts a clear boundary between the two. No one wants to be the person that's always talking about themselves yet they don't know anything about the other person ╮(￣▽￣)╭
