These authors really know how to pick 'em... Why is it never the one person that'd be perfect for the MC? I'm so sick and tired of second lead syndrome, it's ridiculous. The childhood friend has protected the MC through thick and thin. I get it, the MC probably feels bad and feels like he's tied down the friend, but obviously the friend is there because he wants to be.
