yuuki probably misunderstood mafuyu when he said "would you die for me?". He probably thought mafuyu was breaking up with him so since he "can't live without mafuyu", he killed himself.
i quite understand his feelings, but i agree with you, he could have solved the problem logically. he could have talked to mafuyu or something.
