i don't think he manipulated her tho, i think she wanted an escape and found one abroad and offered to take him with her. I guess she realised he wasn't willing to and she only had 2 options - either stay here with them and break apart because of her trauma or go abroad away from the whole situation and just feel guilty for your actions. I guess she considered the latter as a better option and decided to leave, even if it meant she had to also leave her brother behind in the process.
