You're completely misunderstanding his intentions and the plot. It's not a punishment, it's a "reason" to cry and a stress relief. He wants to cry for physical pain, not emotional, and then be taken care of. I mean he spelled it out.

Ya… I really resonate with this character. When you are used to depending on people who also abuse you (family, boss) it is easy to internalize a lot of that as self blame and to turn to those same people for more abuse/punishment and support. Agree that it's not consensual bdsm. But I'm hopeful that him asking for a session like this can lead into that when he realizes he can ask for such a thing any time not just Saturdays.
