Jesus...this is the best manga I've read in a long time (TДT) I didn't really want to read this but I'm glad did. And I'm still kind of confused, does Richard have both male and female reproductive organs? Or nothing?

you know it really sounded like you were telling jesus this which i found amusing. and with you question, i don't know if this is the case in the manga, there are so rare cases were a person is born with both genitals. and in this time witches were believed to be made to reproduce demons because demons can't do that on there own, if that is the case that would mean he is male but because he was selected as a witch was given additional female genitals or was always female just not supposed to be.

There are two chromosomes pertaining to sex: X and Y. Females have the chromosome sequence XX and males have XY. When sex cells, known as the egg and sperm cell, undergo meiosis (the process in which they split), they receive one chromosome so that when an egg cell and sperm cell combine it will result in two total X or Y chromosomes. Sometimes, when the cells split, they split incorrectly, leaving the original with neither an X nor a Y, and the copy with both chromosomes. When that copy cell combines with another during sexual reproduction, the child has a chromosome sequence of either XXX (female, the extra X doesn't affect her) or XXY (male, affected by the extra X) for their gender. XXY is called Klinefelter's syndrome. Since there is the presence of the Y, the person is known as a male. He is born with a penis, and sometimes has a vagina as well. He develops breasts during puberty and has abnormal levels of estrogen. This can result in many health problems. Our beloved Richard here has Klinefelter's syndrome.

Not always the case, though. XXY individuals can have female genitalia. It's not always that clearcut.
