Same! I had a theory (that I hope is not true) that maybe he had talked to the mom about ML and she told him to stay away (cause of the curse thing) and he thought with her dead, he could be with the ML
Nah I still think he planned to kill MCs mother that night when the king killed the rest of the village so MC would blame the king and go to SML, cause he's the only one who was ever kind and nice to him. Ever since he first arrived I've not trusted him as a character at all. He's related to the king, and the fact he's alive when the king killed off the rest of his family is a massive red flag to me. There's no way the king would've left anyone alive to dispute his rule or create potential heirs that could cause trouble later, so SML would've manipulated the king somehow into leaving him alive
