I think that the ghost was a just a metaphor for the time they spent when he was a ghost. The vanishing of the ghost symbolizes that they are letting go of the past and starting anew. And no, he didn't get his memories back and that's why he told Iku that it doesn't matter as long as he is reminded everytime about their love.
