You must be new. Anyone who was around before yaoi became mainstream knows that authors have actually been getting LESS comfortable with rape.
It used to be the standard even for fluff stories, it was literally just a regular, almost mandatory plot point to get go the love story and it was insanely romanticized.
Now at least it is only present in toxic stories, which are very much recognizable (similar plots, covers and archetypes...) And that you can actually choose to avoid.
Tbh I never understand people who read toxic stories knowing they can't handle them and complain about it.
The rape problem has always been here and it was way more common before. Some of the most popular BLs are indeed toxic BLs, but if you look at Lehzin's calendars, made of the most popular BL, you can clearly see that your statement is false. Fluff/healthy stories are some of the most popular too. One look at the mangago featured manga section and you can confirm it.
It's just that you feel like toxic BL is more popular because for some reason you insist to read what you don't like / can't handle.
So idk, maybe try to go for stories that you will actually like? Toxic BL don't care about originality most of the time so it's literally the same plots, archetypes and covers. I know this very well as I mainly only read them and never get it wrong.
Try actually spotting and avoiding them instead of being a masochist.
