I read the prequel of this manga (which i loved) and right after read this one. In the previous manga we see Hayashida abuse his boyfriend and main character, Yumi. The abuse is not just a slight shove or a slap mind you. We are talking about serious, repeated beatings, mental abuse etc. Some pretty chilling things. So i came here to see if Hayashida could somehow redeem himself for the suffering that he caused to his ex lover. The truth is i expected so much more but in the end i wasn't satisfied with his story.
The story of Hayashida is so much focused on the sex that the most important thing for me, ie his violent past was kind of brushed over. Yes, we see him regreting what he did and we are offered an excuse of why he did it but that for me is not enough. You can't go and beat your loved ones because you have a shitty job. If that's the case, 50% of the population would constantly beat the other 50%. What i'm trying to say is that i wanted more focus on how a person can turn out to be as violent as Hayashida was, how that person can stop that abominable behavior and how can we be sure that he is not going to behave in that way again or beat his current partner. I don't know, but for me the story was kind of lacking. I felt so sad for Yumi in the previous story that i needed a real good excuse to be able to forget what Hayashida did, care for him and feel happy that he found someone who loved him. In the end though, i didn't much care for him.
Ogeretsu Tanaka, is an awesome artist and her stories can be really amazing. In this one i enjoyed the first story, i enjoyed the brilliant art, as always, but i wanted so much more regarding the second story.

Have you tried reading Azami? It goes more in depth on Hayashida's past with Yumi and what happened to him at work tha led to his abusive behavior.

How can you say the excuse offered was not enough to forgive him? Not only does he have a shitty job, but he was abused and raped as well. He was stomped on the face and kicked in the stomach to the point he bled and vomit. And what's worse, the people around him turned a fucking blind eye on it. He knew what he was wrong and mind you he was the one who took the initiative to let yumi go. Yumi didn't have the balls to let himself be free from Hayashida, and the moment Hayashida saw Mayama he knew that's his one and only chance to let go of Yumi. You can't solely blame hayashida for their abusive relationship in the past since Yumi was relying on it as well and didn't do shit about it. "Even though Kan chan hit me, it didn't hurt at all". Wtf? He was submitting himself to the abuse because he had no where to go, and when hayashida saw mayama he knew that he can finally let go of yumi since yumi has a place to go now. In all honesty, Hayashida truly loved yumi and regretted what he did and this story just shows how he tries to rebuild himself as a person. The next book shows his process of redemption and honestly I love Hayashida and Shuuna's character the most in the series. They both show so much character and relationship development.

I admit that i haven't read the manga where it shows Hayashida's abuse in depth. I didn't even know it existed before some people pointing it out. I will check it out, though i can't stand innocent people getting abused.

His abused parts were put into bits by bits in the prequel and also sequel so you'll have to do quiet some research on that. Also, yes, I can't stand that as well and Ogeretsu sensei delivered the perfect message that life is not all fluff and rainbows. Kannosuke was innocent as well, all he wanted was to earn for him and yumi and his family. No one saw it coming and before they knew it, it was too late. That's why it's important why they say "we can't go back". Because shit happened, and he knew it was beyond forgiveness. That's why him and shuuna's relationship is more about rebuilding and searching their new, better selves. (/TДT)/ Their relationship is so deep that I'm honestly addicted. I'm more into their relationship rather than Mayumi tbh. ( ̄∇ ̄")

Also, you have to understand why their relationship started off filled with sex. He said when he has sex with Shuuna, he is able to forget about thr person he was. Which means his past abusive self still haunts him and sex was the only way to make him run away from it. They started off solely as sex partners for pleasure. As the chapter progress you can see that Hayashida becomes confused of his feelings. He kept convincing himself that all he needed from Shuuna was sex because he kept thinking that he doesn't deserve to love anymore and only needs to run away from the past. (Also it has been 3-4 years since the Mayumi incident) That's why he hesitated when Shuuna wanted to have sex with him because he's scared.(hence why you see Hayashida not facing Shuuna when they had sex later on in the series) But in the end Shuuna taught Hayashida that he doesn't have to cling to his past any longer. He doesn't want Hayashida to smile like in the past, rather find a new smile instead. When he said he wanted Hayashida to smile like in the picture he meant that he wanted Hayashida to find happiness again, not go back to the past. Hayashida was constantly punishing himself and making himself think that he doesn't deserve love anymore and Shuuna taught him to let go of the past, close the old dirty book that he kept scribbling and start off with a new clean book to write. That's why he said "I'm in love with the present you" and also why Hayashida said he didn't need Shuuna to save him or make him forget the past and just be with him and love him. Because slowly he was already changing for the better, all the painful and awful things he did in the past, it remains a scar for him to reflect. He only needed shuuna to be there for him and support him.

Shuushida might start off with sex, but they ended without it. Which is also an important point in their relationship. (Also in contrary with mayumi lolol) Shuushida is all about forgiving your past and redemption while Mayumi has always been stuck in the past, but this time no mkre running away and facing it. Quite ironic. Both deep and sweet in their oen way but I felt like Shuushida has a stronger meaning in all honesty (⌒▽⌒)

Don't judge things too fast!!! And you have to look at the circumstances from every angle. Not only one sided view!!! Hayashida's story is STILL ONGOING. Someday he will have to solve the issue with Yumi and it starts now.

Yea you definitely need to read the complete released story first!!! You need to check it out, but i think there are 3 titles related to hayashida's story. And then the story is still ongoing anyway. It's just a prelude an introduction. If you want evrythings to be explained in these several.chapters, it will be too short and you will be complaining again that it is lack of depth.
