I think it began because people need a "reason" to rape other people. To give sympatique background. Oooo I cannot stand pheromones must rape!
It was expansion of damsel in distress x noblesse obligue trope in Harlequin romances, or yaoi rape trope.
Only recently that new generation of omegaverse explore gentler side. Tadaima Okaeri or this one, where it talk about being human (self control) is higher order than base instinct.

...So of course it becomes even more fantastical in the anatomy department because it is not the aim at all to be logical. In fact it is to become more suspension of disbelief.
(they say it was in part inspired by wolfpack alpha-beta-omega dynamic. But even male wolves don't birthing young pups!)

Yea I definitely see that and I personally like the whole animalistic feeling of the Omegaverse. It adds many more options for plot and romance.
I think it would make more sense if the Omegaverse evolution occurred due to overpopulation instead of a declining population.
Like for instance, omegas are a 3rd gender/ an evolved male with an extra pheromone-producing organ that attracts alpha males. Since these omegas would not be able to bear children, their purpose would be to pair with more alphas and calm the population growth. So basically an enhanced gay uke and enhanced gay seme.
That at least would make a little more sense to me.

I would like to see this scientific reason too, I think you touched upon an interesting ideé
IIRC, in the wild there are species that are born almost exclusively male when overpopulation (hence omega male) that turn female only when the population dropping to below a certain limit, yes?
I wish there's a scifi omegaverse now!

In some omega stories natural birth is possible. It has its own opening. In some the body makes an opening between the male parts and the rear opening (in some the opening is always their in others the opening only happens as part of the birthing/pregnancy just like a body creates placenta... body creates birthing organ/opening). It can be a purely to birth children opening that opens only during labor and seals/heals shut after or omegas can basically be kinda like intersex and show as male or female based on outward anatomy most present and have permanent opening. I also have read novels with characters that where human/dragons and their birth was natural and they either had an egg pop out their butt cause the birthing canal was connected to the rear in a sort of Y configuration and the egg grew to baby size after being "Laid" or the stomach of the birthing father hardened and then cracked open/split (kinda like a lizard can shed its skin except its creating an opening) for birth as natural version of a c section basically. So it being ridiculous only depends on how well thought out it is. Personally I like the thought of the body creating a birthing opening and after expelling all birthing stuff healing closed. It makes for a neat trick and keeps the characters male enough for me while still making it painful and stressful for the birther.

Yeah, I really can't stand male pregnancy in yaoi. It just makes ukes even more like women and the whole thing unbearably heteronormative. The idea of a more sci-fi/futuristic omegaverse with mega population problems is fantastic!! I also think the screwed up, discriminatory social structure of omegaverse, based on deterministic biology, is really interesting and is a premise for great stories and characters... but yup, guys getting pregnant from their buttholes just ruins it for me!! (Also I personally don't find pregnancy and having babies sexy or romantic.) I'm glad this manga has switched to focus on an alphaxbeta pair!

Ah good point. The hetero-normative aspect also becomes a turn off. Like it's basically no longer a gay relationship and further shoves the uke into a female role. Not only that, but omegas are often portrayed as less than or weak (much like what women and LGBT people still experience in modern society).
It's rather frustrating as a gay man to be asked if I take the female or male role. Like, I am a MAN. Whatever position I take in bed has nothing to do with my gender or my role in a relationship. The Omegaverse forces positions and labels on characters, which isn't helpful in real life...
I think the Omegaverse was created with the sole reason of indulging certain fujoshis' fantasies of two men having a child together as well as creating a world where rape is common and generally accepted (as someone mentioned before). What that does leave more possibilities for plot, it still could've been better thought out.
In regards to the pregnancy itself, I don't find that sexy or romantic either. To each their own I guess. I read many Omegaverse stories regardless strictly for the story and the sex. But once pregnancy actually becomes a part of the plot, it ruins it for me. I read yaoi for romance between two males - not male and male with baby-maker xD
I'm excited for the alphaxbeta pairing as well. Betas are normally side characters and never get any focus. So this should be interesting.

I completely agree. SO many people are weirdly fixated on penetration - as a bi woman, clearly I am not :-3. When it comes to two women, it's less common to get questions about who does what to whom during sex, presumably just because there's no penis involved so it doesn't really matter? (Of course, the sex does get fetishised a hell of a lot, mainly by straight men.) What's more likely is speculation or questions about "Who is the guy in the relationship?" FFS, do you freaking SEE a guy in the relationship?? And what does that even mean? One expects the other to do more housework? One's needy while the other has trouble expressing emotions? What bullshit gender stereotypes are going on with that anyway?!
I really love yaoi that is about guys who are actually guys. And I really like it when the guys aren't locked into one "role," sex position or otherwise. Regarding omegaverse, I probably should have been clearer - it has the *potential* to be a really interesting premise. It does still have that potential, I don't think the 'rules' are set in stone. But yeah, so far it hasn't lived up to that potential for me. I think you're totally right that it started as a setting geared around indulging certain fujoshi fetishes and circumventing the problem of making brutish, rapist semes sympathetic. And while it annoys the crap out of me, I try not to begrudge others their tiny tearful girly ukes, or even guys getting up the duff. But hopefully omegaverse will evolve beyond that - as you say, for the sake of story and sex!
Omegaverse stories have their really good points. Like the heat concept is super hot and the idea of a fated pair and the biting is really sweet. I also like that male/female genders no longer have any separation in the Omegaverse. It's very free and open-minded.
HOWEVER....I just can't get over the ridiculousness of the "anatomy". Omegas can get pregnant from their ass and have children....which they would then have to get a c-section to birth the child since they can't actually shit it out their ass LOL
And that wouldn't even be a remotely logical evolution because the body would NEVER evolve to require a surgery to function properly. It should be a natural function.
I tend to try to ignore the ridiculous anatomy bit when I read Omegaverse stories because it makes it difficult for me to take it seriously. So yea, while it does have its good points, the Omegaverse was not thoroughly thought through where it could make sense even from a fantasy standpoint.
