I think it's because most Japanese people are bashful(or so i've read somewhere before), or take bashfulness as a very positive trait
So people who are very upfront makes others feel embarrassed(as you can see by the rest of the class), but most mangakas use that type of character with a shy one because otherwise things wont get done(maybe)
I am not sure how to really describe it- I like the fact that she isn't fronting about her feelings. I don't really think its weak to do what your lover wants as long as you want it too. It annoys me when girls in shoujo and the uke in yaoi pretend that they are totally against doing what their lover wants simply because its embarrassing but secretly really want to do it but for whatever reason they act like they don't. But at the same time i want him to work for it. I think she give in too easily. I kind of wanted her to toy with him a little but at the same time she should be honest about her feeling and not lead the other guy on (basically i can't be pleased-lol). But over all i am glad she is not fronting- I guess i find that to be more annoying then her giving in easily.
