I'm guess there is more to the story. I'm assuming they split up for some reason and she still likes him so she's helping him pay his debt while he promised her to remarry once it's all paid. That's what's I'm getting for now.

because he put the debt under her name so they probably divorced so that the debt would not affect him (the spouse) and would just be under her. they are still in a relationship and living together because he promised he would remarry her once she paid off the debt.
Just asking out of curiousity, why hae soo and that jerk divorced but still living together? I mean is the divorce thing make their debts lesser?
