To mc it looks like a plant, for example when he was petting the spirit, he has actually petting the plant. Also the spirit was see through, i honestly think it was a visual representation to us readers to show that it wasn’t just a plant, but an actual spirit he was communicating with.

When I read in the novel, I imagine flamie as a literal plant... since...it was really written that Its a plant...so I was... surprise to see Flamie has a human(?) or spirit...I dunno...but definitely not like that...
