To make them sensitive (if you were genuinely wondering)

Dumb and fake reason that bastard gave, because with scar tissue they'd be LESS sensitive. I guess they're sensitive while healing but after a while he won't feel much, so that's why I say fake reason.

I mean that's why they keep cutting it but one of the other reasons could be to just see the mc in misery
