Well, for #1, there's the execution on Yuji's head (he still swallowed 15 Sukuna fingers). And with no Gojo around to stop them, it'd make sense for the higher-ups to go savage after Yuuji.
#2 There's the Cycle of Curses. It's explained in the story that while Yuji and Sukuna exist, the cycle of curses won't ever end. And in chapter 267, Yuuji ends it by saying 'Let's end this Cycle of Curses'
(fun fact: the kanji Yuuji uses for 'cycle' is the same they use in the anime's title, so it's a big scene)
So it can circle back to his execution or not. He can convinve his friends he wants it, or he escapes it just to have his friends do it, so he'll die like his Grampa wished he would.

There's a conversation where Higurama says curses don't really weaken after death and that it makes sense they would get 《stronger》, Sukuna's last words was "don't underestimate me"... we can only speculate but the signs are all so glaringly clear that Sukuna isn't dead, just refused to return to Yuji, therefore, vessel-less.
There's still time for Yuuji to die, but maybe not, let's hope not

Thats just the thing with Gege: he's done many INCREDIBLY senseless things along the story:
- sealing gojo to develop other characters' growth in CG arc; no development is made. And if it is, it isn't shown, which is a major downer for a shounen.
- stretched CG arc looooong as fuck and now has to rush even important things.
- offscreening #1 popular character's death after fight was won.
Anyway, let's wait and see :)
At least Nobara, megumi and Yuji alive I will count my loses and take my wins
