I think San is Moon Hoesung. Yoonwi probably named his dog that because of their connection in his past life. He might not consciously remember that connection, but subconsciously there might be echoes of it still lingering in his soul. That's my theory anyway.

San is Moon Hoseung’s descendant (Geumsun confirmed this). I don’t think he’s a direct incarnation of Moon Hoseung.

Chapter 53. Geumsun told the possessed San that he had known his family blood line for a long time, and the first person who had such a strong spiritual aura (comparable or greater to San’s) died a long time ago. I’m 99.9% sure he was referring to Moon Hoseung.
One of hoseung’s dialogues states he wants to be reincarnated as a snowflake and thats San’s name, I think that’s a hint he’s the reincarnation.

You are so right! now that i'm thinking about it, it does make sense. And I saw another comment saying Hoesung gave Yama some goblin stones to be passed down to his decendants and San's aunt had the same stones! it also makes sense that he isnt in the current era bc we woudlve re-incarted ages before Yoonwi and Eunon bc unlinke the brothers, he didnt need to spend time paying for his sins!
I think it’s similar enough, the author made a point of San’s name and then Hoseung mentioned he wants to be like ice falling from the sky, I think this author is very smart as to what it’s included and mentioned.
