They don't really, they don't get to decide who they marry , they don't get to decide on a divorce,they can't just up and leave because a lot of INNs won't even take payment from females there.
Leaving and having her own independence just isn't possible in this world so she's just navigating and attempting to hold her own through the situation that she's been dealt.
