Yes, his eyes glowing does mean he's got a power. There was a power ranking board earlier in the story, and some people were thinking he would be put in the empty second place spot behind Serafina. I'm guessing he disguised himself because of his past and the green haired girl we keep seeing. I'm also guessing that UnOrdinary has a place in the reason, but I'm not sure how.
Yeah I just can't really imagine how unOrdinary book would have tied in.
My only guess is that the green haired girl is someone born without a power, and John sincerely tried to help her (or didn't) and got backstabbed.
All we can do is wait and see.

Except that if that was true why was he the one being bullied and why did he say that this rich school was like the poor school he came from when he first arrived and Elaine treated him with disdain because he didn't have a power.
Not really sure about that. He could've possibly thought the level of bullying would be lower, but that wouldn't make sense. He would've known that it'd be higher based on who goes there. At the same time, we don't know the environment of the last school. For all we know, it could be even worse than the one he goes to now.
