He has ptsd and sht for going to war and making it out. Someone who goes through trauma doesnt just magically get better once they hear the magic words 'i love you and youre ok now'. Sht is layered and even after a few years of love and care there will still be fragments left of that pain. He has seen the ugliness of the world and its no surprise he will see things in a negative tone.

She picked her choice amongst all others and stood by him. He probably also feels like she deserves someone better and is pushing her away to find her happiness in someone else.

But it sure is painful as hell to wait for the eeniest bit of romance

Also misunderstandings & lack of communication is the spice of the story. It does get annoying when its too much, but putting enough makes for a good tension. What good is drama without tension?
(But i def dont reco that in real life pls communicate w peeps)

I have been really enjoying this book. All the chapters we have seen have added more to the plot and it is moving at the perfect pace. I agree with you completely.
