You are missing the nail... for most part. Choice of words. Nobody is invalidating your "perspective", people are pointing out your diction. It is a strong word and its usage here is a bit puzzling or a killjoy to some extend.
This aside, the difference between sympathy and empathy. Pathy comes from Pathos, which means feelings or suffering. The "em" of empathy means "in" or "within" and the "sym" of sympathy means "together" or "with".
When you feel empathy for someone, your internalize their feelings as if they were yours; It captures the sense of deeply understanding and sharing the feelings of another person by metaphorically "putting yourself in their shoes." When you feel sympathy for someone, you can understand/accept their state of mind. You can feel sympathy without empathy and the opposite is also true. This suggests a shared experience of emotion, where one person expresses understanding and care for another's feelings.
The best example is being understanding for your friend's breakup. You feel bad for them being sad, but you don't feel sad as if you are the one who broke up.
Regardless, I would not recommend you being to immersed on this delirious nonsense fiction. Sympathy is fine. Empathy is too much.

i get the concern, but this is the appeal of the trope and the author writes it just like how it's often written: 1 person indulging and the other person getting indulged on. feeling a loss of control and eventually giving in to pleasure is a major reason why people are attracted to it, and that's why works like this are born. people liking dubcon in their fantasy does not equate to them actually wanting to be assaulted irl.
