That was pretty much my theory when the host said he "owed" him something and I thought it was weird for the ML to reject MC when it was so clear that they liked each other. All I could think of was that someone must have changed the Text of ML's reply to mess with the MC for some reason and the only people that could have that ability is the system themselves.
If anyone is wondering why ML is confused about the rejection.

ML never rejected our MC. He actually reciprocated his feeling and told him so, but the system interfered and changed what MC heard. MC's kingdom was too good, they were progressing in the tower too fast and the system/game didn't like it, so they sabotaged their relationship. That's why ML was nore hurt by MC's dissappearance, bcs he did confess back that he loves MC and then MC just left. It's really evil for the system to do that
