i dropped this pretty early, just a few chapters in when i found out he cheats, so i can't say much. but i agree, people like that seem to get off on the pain. a relationship that starts with so much turmoil can only thrive in that same environment. a genuinely healthy relationship between the two isn't possible unless they heal their own trauma first, and that doesn't seem likely if they stay together. they'll keep craving that familiar high and low, and the constant turmoil will be something they can't break away from. luckily, this is just fiction; otherwise, their relationship would be doomed
I can see why there are readers who love it, and why there are readers who hate it. The author probably had to go on hiatus every so often cause of all the stress from the hate mail lmao. I actually liked it. The angst hit the spot for me. It didn’t feel as heavy or as toxic as I expected it to be based on the comments (then again the bar IS in hell). Everyone was realistically selfish and realistically self-centered. Admittedly that was exhausting sometimes. For that reason I can see how some people would find that the payoff (the sweeter moments and smut) doesn’t make up for it enough. You might still feel the bitterness of the emotional hurt.
If you’re a person who does not give second chances, someone who holds grudges, or is intolerant of one-sided/ unrequited love, this might not be for you. It will piss you off.
Anyway the MC and ML’s masochistic tendencies helped them propel their relationship further imo. Even in their honeymoon phase they were already looking for ways to trigger each other (well, the bottom was). You could say they’re growing together or whatever but personally I think they get off on the emotional torment. Low key I can see a future where they get so bored they get into NTR or swinging. And then cry about it like idiots ex post facto and reaffirm their love.
Now this is random and maybe I’m just unhinged, but at one point during the ending of the main storyline I started cracking up because it seemed like everyone was crying for like three chapters in a row what the fuck. Am I crazy? I was just cracking up I kind of couldn’t take them seriously anymore, even though it was the zenith of the story. Get it together luv.
Anyway justice for Woojin. I really hope we get a spinoff.
