There’s rarely non paled protagonists in these stories. One of the few times there is he’s a slave? It just comes off as racist.

That's cherry picking. I have come across way too many books here about slavery, darker skinned slaves are a vast MINORITY. You never see this type of outrage in those other mangas when they're lighter skinned, even enters the point of even fetishizing the poor man. Ofc it's because, its a trend to defend the marginalized communities that's NON existent here. Too many kids nowadays parroting the word the adults use, just to feel intellectual and make themselves make feel like there are adding onto a cost. It's fake outrage

Would do you mean by Non existent here?? I mean people from all over are on this website so I feel like thats a weird thing to say. And the amount of stories thats have darker skinned slaves compared to pale skinned isn’t really relevant here tbh. How does it make this story less racist , that is what people are asking.

if you're talking about racism in the story, its the fact that the slave is from the fire kingdom. the ice kingdom is racist against the fire kingdom, whose people posesses fire element. not because he is dark skinned. everyone in the comments are outraged about the wrong thing

I think what you missing here, is the fact that the author is of this world, the same as ours, has lived, seen and learnt of history as people, of people as a whole, specifically of black peope, they’d know something…and quite often some people knowingly or not, seem to portray darkskin people regardless of race, as the undesired, unfortunate, savage slaves etc, it implies a lot more than just slavery and master relationship, but also racism, emphasis on racism here… it’s not the first times we’ve seen shit like this, it’s at a point where we can’t just mindlessly read stuff like this because we come across it too often, and it’s always portrayed in the same way, you can’t just ignore this bitter aftertaste each time you take a bite the same way you can’t ignore what is implied each time you read stories that tread in this territory.

And I’m not saying stories like this shouldn’t be made, but the author has to be careful of what they’re intending to put into the story so that it’s received in a way where readers won’t have arguments such as these, because this isn’t simply just analysing a book, it’s showing the true colours of the author and also the readers too.

And what you’re basically admitting is that there is something wrong here, but you dismiss because “if it was a light skinned person”, what???, why are we talking hypotheticals here? You have a problem? Please speak up about how ur uncomfortable with certain themes, and why you feel that way.

Here we can clearly see, what type of relationship it is, the loopholes of this story and the weirdness of it…the dark skinned dude even refers himself as a slave, and we know in what way too, and he loses himself to his former oppressors, just become of a hug? Tf?? Somehow he’s able to withstand the fact that he’s serving a nation that turned on his people, somehow he forgets that his own people were oppressed too….umm what?
