I am reading the novel so I'm the later chapters it is revealed thqt - SPOILERR SPOILERRR
Each of the kings hart have some kind of special power / privilege - like one manages the priests and temple, another manages the regas, another stores an ancient relic - and Duke truyde has the black poision to use against the emperor. But having this advantage also comes with the curse that he has to have or be attracted to the people / the regas themself. So when they find out yregas might be alive he already knows what Abel would look like since he is attracted to blonde hair and green eyes
