I think what a lot of people here forget is that 2 years have passed.
Put this story down for 2 years, then pick it up again and see if you still feel the same resentment towards Damien as you do now.
I think we all underestimate what time can heal.
We resent Damien for what he has done because for us everything happened only a few weeks ago. We still feel the same hatered that Chloe felt when she had just discovered his secret vault and she consequently decided to run away from him in a way that would leave him in utter despair - that was her revenge.
She had 2 years to process what happened. And I guess time took the edge off of the events.
It is a common occurence that after some time we remember only the good things (and she was deeply in love with him) and forget about the bad things or start to think that it wasn't all that bad... it's how the soul tries to protect itself from everlasting pain.

I know that there are people who can hold a grudge for years, even decades, even for the rest of their lives. But I find that in itself quite a talent xD
And Chloe seems to be quite normal with her past-processing.
