If they are man and woman in their relationship, real life people would know who's gonna take up the role of the top (masculine) or the bottom (feminine).

It's more like the dynamics of the relationship between man and woman as explained in sex education in highschool.
In this fictional world, it's about relationship dynamics between an alpha and omega. We know for sure their perspective roles and expectations without knowing their sex life.
But in their case, it's alpha and alpha. You can't expect two alphas in a relationship that they aren't gay. Both of them will have new roles and new expectations that are quite unique for an alpha ang omega couple.
Me, as a reader, I want to expect what type of role they're gonna bring into their relationship. We have different expectations and so are you.
You'll defend it like... Y'know they're just in highschool. Babes, in highschool, it's enough for your age to have basic conversation about pregnancy awareness and sex education...societal roles and gender values.
They are also 16-17. Like in my country, they're not highschool anymore...16-17 are college students (long story but 16 in my college are Freshmen in college in my country).
