i think she was more worried abt them not supporting her bcs tuition isn’t cheap, esp med school and maybe they can’t afford it. she’s also on a scholarship for her (prestigious) school so she doesn’t want to put pressure on her parents
As someone in pre-med, a lot of my us actually wants to become doctors but gets discourage because not only is it hard but realistically speaking it's a financial burden some of us can't afford.

sorry but in what world would parents be mad that their child wants to go to med school? aren't parents these days practically begging for their children to be lawyers and doctors?
