the better question is how did they get caught. I don't know about japan, but I skipped school several times without my mom knowing it, despite checking my room. Messy beds rock.
I'm not sure about entrance ceremony days. But on regular days, if a student is absent unexcused, the homeroom teacher will call home. That's how it is in Japan.
No, what happened was that the older brother skipped school. He didn't go at all. And they probably scolded the little brother too for being clingy, because if he hadn't been clingy, the older brother wouldn't have tried to console him by skipping school.
that's harsh, no secret ninja moves to get out of it. Unless you are like me and grew up with the same voice as your parents.
