He was having a full-on convo with this sword because the sword didn't recognize the user's ability and was rejecting him by slowly poisoning him and he had to reason with it. It didn't listen so he had to activate his detoxing skill, which took a bit of time to take effect. He's trying to decide if he should just go head-on into the fray and risk injuries so he could go back and turn off the damn stove with two full on stockpot, but also didn't want to be bleeding all over the kitchen while serving the food. Etc. lots of processes going on. If he waited for rescue or backup crew the stew would have been burned to a crisp. But anyways. Yeah. Possible reread or reconfiguring this on your end, highly recommended.

So he's not only weaker, but now be has to deal with an item that is much stronger than his skill level and it was slowly poisoning him because it doesn't recognize that he's "the owner" because of his reduced skill level. Dodging isn’t fighting. In a fight you also attack which he didn’t do. He didn’t fight the monster nor hurt the monster.

Perhaps in these kinds of games the rules are different but irl when a person makes an attack they expend energy. You can fired your opponent out as well as preventing yourself from taking damage.
In games (virtual) when you get hit you take damage to your shielding, life force, and health points andaube even mana reduction. And depending on the type of injuries you may be too weak to dodge or wiels off the next attack. Why would you not dodge if you don't have the ability to withstand impact and injuries?!? Unless my shield is impenetrable and I don't sustain injuries due to said impacts why would I just take damage head on? At the time he's unable to yet wield the sword to parry, so what is his option?!? Have you SEEN ppl fight?!? Part of the strategy is to not receive damage!!!
If you think dodging isn't part of fighting just watch MMA, & boxing. You're telling me they're instantly receiving hits??? If your opponent is stronger than you are or they're gonna hit a vital point and you have no ability to shield yourself, and even if you can you still feel the impact. Why would I be a sitting duck and not dodge?!? If I can't block or counterattack why would I just stand there and take impact?!? Fighting isn't always about constantly attacking, it's Also about defense.. and defensive moves also means outmaneuvering your enemies' attacks. It's dodge and parry. At the time he didn't have a shield or anthing to counterattack. So he utilize dodging. But sure I'm sure you'll do well in a fight since you prefer to receive impact head on.
