I don't think it's empty, for me personally, look at his eyes when they ran, his eyes their is empty like the teacher. And like mishima at the beginning of the chapter.

Kirino’s eyes are so empty…no matter how hard he laughs or smiles his eyes look like they want to be else where. He may have taken the easier path (socially) by marrying, having a kid and hiding his identity from the world but when he did that he lost apart of himself, just like the teacher. He may become like that teacher actually no matter how sweet his character was before since it was buried long before
