Pretty sure she died around the time ML was born. He came early due to the high priestess setting a harsh trial that endangered their health. She was pregnant before they were approved to be wed, which is why Diraz has insisted consummation after marriage because that was his mistake. ML had to fight 2-3x as hard for what respect he now has because of the situation, hence why he is more than willing to comply.

I think the disabled people live near the borders, and cause of their disability they can't really fight so they are used as a human shield to distract the enemy until reinforcments arive

I feel disappointed in the author exactly for the same reason. The high priestess led ML's mom to death with the silent support of the king and the whole nation. But this murder was brushed off under the excuse that the high priestess's personal story with outsiders is soo tragic, that we must understand her. She even received an apology from the king, whose beloved she killed!! I am furious
