I see your point, it kinda gives "weaponized incompetence". But since he hasn't learned it properly since childhood it might just be that he hasn't found the right method to learn it. I have a friend myself who likes to help out with chores but he just doesn't see certain things and I just haven't found the time to teach him. In other chores he is quite proficient though. I myself have trouble learning from some conventional teaching methods. Well it might just be neurodivergency in some way lol.
