You might be right, before the girl and mc are not friends and she really can kill him but now it may change to his brother but his brother is a prophet too and saw that his dad and little brother will die in the future that's why he keeps digging about the tragedy in the past to save and protect them cuz you know he loves them both as a family and it might be not two but three who survived in there this time and it's likely a dark magician....

The prophecy was right since one of the survivors was Adela, who killed mc in the novel. Now with the new mc, the prophecy might come true again because his "brother" is now aware and might take revenge? (I haven't read the novel yall, this is just my hypothesis lol)
