That's the whole concept of "fated pairs" though. They were 100% made for each other and no one else.
The author just took that concept and was just like 'hm, what if your fated pair wasn't exactly the same age as you because that's way too convenient and not dramatic at all'.
And then made this wonderful piece of work.
