We saw her background. Her parents seem about normal too so I think there's just something wrong with her mentally which can happen. It can be a recessive gene too.

didn’t realize this would be a hot take but i kinda like seeing the moms backstory. all this information being given makes her a much more complex character than just knowing her as a mom who kills people.
