I disagree for Taeshin's death isn't a plot drive in this story. MC and ML might inevitably met, but didn't they meet at Taeshin's funeral? Didn't the story start by Taeshin's suicide and the cause of it become the mystery to drive readers curiosity, which lead to the tone of relationship between MC and ML? Didn't MC acted wary to ML because what happened to Taeshin, which that behavior make ML intrigued to him?
You talk as if Taeshin's suicide means nothing for the story because MC and ML will meet anyway and will fall to each other anyway, but clearly that isn't what author write for this story.
Taeshin's suicide and reason of why, only mean nothing to MC and ML because they couldn't care to others but themselves. For them Taeshin is just this persistently annoying bug that ML 'unfortunately' need to use for the 'greater good' and MC has to use as example to be careful. Taehin isn't innocent indeed, but he definitely doesn't deserved to be treated like his life doesn't matter.

So here the main plot;
MC's friend unalive himself after torturous SA orchestrated by ML. ML almost make MC experience the same things, but oh the psycho falling for him. MC, head filled with love THROW his friends belonging into the trash along with evidence of SA. ML then will receive just a slap on the wrist and get away from his crime.
If I have a friend like MC, I wouldn't care with enemy. It is not only about betrayal anymore.
