The student knew it was the teacher. The teacher didn't know it was the student because I guess he didn't teach him or notice him before.

I'm not sure. It kind of feels like the teacher did know. Maybe not at first but later found out but since they both lied and kept secrets it was a plausible deniability but Kaji broke the illusion with his confession.

If the teacher knew, what's up with his shocked expression when the truth was told, and then his distancing after the truth was told, and then him telling the kid not to lie at the end? All those seem like signs he wasn't aware. Can you point out parts to negate that and hint he did know?

Kaji didn't change his looks. He wasn't in disguise, at all. All he had was a fake name and not being in uniform.The teacher at least styled his hair differently from his stuffy school teacher look.

As for the shocked expression. I thought it was about how the illusion they both had for the past year was broke down. It's been a year. Why break it now? Why so close to graduation? Did this mean Kaji wanted to break up? But we saw after this they both ended up back in back together. Then we had the final scene at school on graduation day.

I keep thinking about how did the teacher KNOW that Kaji was his student when all Kaji said was that he was a high school student? The teacher never asked what school. He just KNEW Kaji was his student because his expression changed to that of when he is at work in the school.

I see. Well, we can't be sure, but I thought he just finally opened his eyes and maybe after he saw the kid in school, he looked up his name. I mean, he's said to be absent minded several times (his absent mindedness at school is what got him noticed by Hiroki in the first place), so I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't noticed Hiroki in school for a year.

Also, from my perspective, after finding out the truth, the teacher knew he couldn't date a student. So he distanced himself until after graduation. You see at the end, he asks why Hiroki couldn't wait another hour. So it sounds like he planned on getting back together with Hiroki after Hiroki was no longer his student. If he had known about Hiroki being a student already, why would he distance himself like that even through graduation? I mean, you're already having sex with a high schooler, and you both know it. Why suddenly stop? That's another reason I'm sure he didn't know the truth about Hiroki until he was told.

I thought it had to do with the illusion. They both pretended to be other people so it wasn't like it was a teacher/student thing but two strangers meeting through a dating app. But once Kaji confessed, the illusion broke, they could no longer deny the truth.

I just wonder...did the dating app have pictures? Or was it just based off the text?

I don't think it had pictures. I think they communicated through email (if you look at the phone), so just their profiles and emails were probably listed in the app.

oohhh.. there's a long thread of conversation here... and now that i reread it, yeah he knows it was sensei... i was confused by some of the dialogue when i first read it...

anyways, it was a great read... (^__^)
