Disagree. As royalty, you have some responsibility, even when you retire. Not to mention the rumours and bullshit she would have to deal with from the noble class. She already has so much trauma serving them. Now she would probably have to interact with them assholes.

Umm and? If you love a person, you'd be willing to do that much for them. That simple means she does not love him and he is the only one who cares about her. I don't blame her, she has the right to choose what's best for her, but she wouldn't have to make any extraordinary sacrifices if she REALLY wanted to be with him. That's a petty EXCUSE. Just say you don't like him and let him move on. Anyways in the end it's her problem 'cause she missed out on having a partner who truly loves her and was clearly depressed because of her.
You are a little on the delusional side. If you are giving up your hopes and dreams for the person you love, you are losing pieces of yourself. That's how you get to resent your partner. You may understand this when you are older.
