You can be a junior in middle school as well cuz the Japanese school system is different, I think ppl are assuming middle school cuz of looks and the uniform (it can be hs as well but I see it a lot for middle school)
I dont think the younger guy is a middle schooler, it says junior and thats highschool, but its still a 15-16 y/o so its still very wrong to pair him with a grown salary man
