That's how doctors in media are. I personally haven't experienced a prideful doctor so I can't guarantee if it's just for fiction, but I have read a few from some nurses about prideful doctors as well

There will be someone like that. They became doctors for money or ambition and not for saving lives. Which is quite sad, imagine all the people suffer from this kind of people.
Imagine treating a critical patient only to be bothered by your senior by asking tons of unnecessary questions when the PATIENT'S WELL-BEING IS AT RISK *high blood pressure intensifies* oh god...my nape.
My father used to be a surgeon for a sports medicine hospital. The politics were so bad that he resigned after only five years and moved to a totally different hospital. Never did sports-med again. He's dead now so I'll never know exactly what he meant by "office politics" but I'm guessing it has to do with this sort of thing.
