This is actually a reference to Swedish traditions, hinting that Elbaf is inspired by Sweden and the Nordic countries. Google semla (which is what big mom was going crazy for). In Sweden people would do something similar to Ramadan like a century ago, and further back. The day before it though you would eat a semla. And whilst we don't fast nowadays, we still eat semlor. Hope this clears up why they didn't let her eat food ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ﾉ~
