To give an accurate opinion, I think ss 2 ended too quickly, and it’s obvious the author wanted to push all the major events into ss 3. She just want to stretched the story into Season 3 isn’t she? Whatever.
I’ve never really been a fan of this series’ plot, it’s too messy, full of unnecessary drama, and a lot of the time, it just feels like the characters are acting tough and then having sex instead of actually doing anything. But somehow, I ended up liking Jian, so I try to understand the plot and ignore the flaws because he’s just that interesting to me. Jin, on his own, isn’t that exciting, but his dynamic with Jian is. Honestly, Jian is so compelling that whoever he interacts with automatically becomes more interesting to me, like Jitae, i was interesting in their bromance, even rival role but now Jitae brain only care about mieum so, i don’t care about him that much anymore, and mieum? He only important to Jitae, he just a unlucky pure angel get stuck to this messy drama tbh, i have no deep feeling for him since that all he are, angel alway feel guilty character even though he did nothing wrong i guess.
Of course, there will always be some salty anti-fans who try to downplay Jian’s role in the story, so let me just say this, without Jian, Cry Me a River wouldn’t even start. Mieum wouldn’t be with Jitae and would probably be dead, because if Jian hadn’t covered up the fact that Mieum survived, Suryeon would never have let it slide. Jitae wouldn’t have stood a chance at protecting Mieum. And without Jian, Jin wouldn’t have had any reason to team up with Jitae, so let’s see how Jitae would magically find evidence against Suryeon all on his own.
Jian doesn’t just push the plot forward, he has a deep and unpredictable personality. Even now, besides helping the main couple, his true goal is still a mystery. Even at his worst, struggling with addiction, he could still easily manipulate Jin, exactly the kind of sassy, cunning energy I love.
If there’s one thing I don’t like about Jian’s story, it’s that in ss2 the author makes him suffer too much. In Season 1, even while dealing with addiction, he still did a lot of thing and have his own plan. But now, he’s just stuck in a cycle of pain. At least by the end of Season 2, even though he’s more pitiful, but he’s gotten back his sharp, manipulative side. I really hope that in Season 3, he recovers and finally reveals his true plans, preferably while seducing Jin into working with him.
